Summer’s final hurrah is nearly its end with what will hopefully be the final 90+ degree day of 2010.
Mattias Timander was an expansion draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets from the Boston Bruins. Timander played in nearly every game during the first two seasons of Blue Jacket hockey, but after the 2001-2002 season was traded to the New York Islanders. Today Timander continues his hockey career in the SEL.
Another former Jacket with the Stanley Cup, this is Joe Motzko. Joe played for the CBJ during the 2003-04, 05-06 and 06-07 seasons before a trade to the eventual Stanley Cup champion, Anaheim Ducks. In his NHL career, Motzko never once played in more than 8 games in a season, and now finds himself playing out the string in the DEL.
Darrel Scoville played 10 games with the Jackets during the 2002-03, 03-04 seasons. Previously Scoville had played 6 games with the Flames before his brief stay with Columbus. Now Scoville can be found playing in the Austrian hockey league.
Darcy Campbell has played in one career NHL game, and yes you guessed it, that was with Columbus during the 2006-07 season. Prior to coming to the Jackets Campbell was playing in NCAA’s Alaska-Fairbanks. Since his VERY brief time with Columbus, Campbell has bounced around the European hockey leagues.
Mathieu Roy appeared in 31 games this season with Columbus, but was later traded to the Florida Panthers. While Roy’s presence was brief, it was definitely felt at a time when the team needed him. In the absence of Mike Commodore, Jan Hejda, and Rusty Klesla, Roy was able to step into the lineup and didn’t look out-of-place. Roy now takes his services to Tampa Bay with “the chosen one”.
Another one game “wonder”, Sean Selmser appeared in a single NHL game with the Jackets during the 2000-01 season. After the season with Columbus, Selmser spent a year with Hamilton (AHL) and since then has been playing in Austria.
Donald Maclean played 4 games with the Blue Jackets during the 2003-04 NHL season. In his 41 game NHL career, Maclean made stops with Los Angeles, Toronto, Columbus, Detroit and Phoenix, his final stop. Like many NHL-ers, after his time in North America, Maclean has continued to play out his career in Europe.
Go Bucks.
Go Jackets.
