Ales Hemsky – JACKETS LOSE

3

4

Seriously? Did the CBJ really just get drilled by a guy with a woman’s name? Make no mistake, Ales Hemsky is good, definitely a type of winger that I’d be glad to have on my team. But losing a game like that after holding a 3-2 lead more than 15 minutes into the 3rd then giving up two goals so easily, and the game winner with 34 seconds remaining…

I only hope that the team is less heartbroken than I am otherwise we could be in for an ugly one tonight in Calgary.

Game 46 – EDMONTON OILERS

Huge “4-point” game tonight. Win and we make the jump to a tie for 7th, lose and well, lets not make that an option…

See-Saw – JACKETS WIN

6

5

This is something that really bothers me with the 3 Star selections. By the way, the Jackets won in a thrilling, back-and-forth game last night at GM Place that saw the CBJ score 4 straight goals in a stirring comeback, only to give up the lead and end up winning the game in a shootout.

Anyway, back to my rant; the three stars of the game last night were:

#1 Henrik Sedin – 1g 1a

#2 Rick Nash – 1g 2a

#3 Taylor Pyatt – 1g 1a

First, there were two other players in the game with 2 points each Kristian Huselius and Kevin Bieksa. Secondly, and most importantly in my opinion, the NHL selected Nash as the 3rd star of the night.

How is Rick Nash the 3rd best player of the night league-wide, but 2nd best in the game he played in. I guess my real gripe is why have a 3 stars of the game if its going to be that biased anyways?

Vancouver Canucks – Game 45

22-19-5

This is what I hate about the Western Conference; the puck drops at 8:00pm tonight, it could be worse if it wasn’t the night before a national holiday

-Chatter coming out of Vancouver is calling for a “physical” game so Hitch has decided to scratch rookie winger Nikita Filatov. Probably a smart move, but without Rick Nash in the lineup I really don’t like taking probably our most talented player out to “protect him”

-The Jackets picked up goaltender Wade Dubielewicz off of re-entry waivers yesterday, pretty much yanking the carpet out from under the New York Islanders who had him signed to a contract. Another low risk move for a semi-veteran goaltender to help back-up Mason. Of course this all means that Pazzy is probably done for the season, surprise surprise.

War Room Fail – Game 44 JACKETS LOSE

Pyle

It was another big night in Nationwide arena and like so many years before the result was all to similar to previous big nights in the arena. There was something different though… the Jackets didn’t find a way to lose for once, they didn’t play their best game either, but as it seems to happen all too often, Toronto found a way to take 2 more points away from the Jackets. It was a defensive struggle from the beginning with the first score not coming until the latter half of the 2nd period, but the game winning goal was scored when goaltender Steve Mason trapped the puck and waited for the whistle, but it didn’t come. Instead the Devils crashed the night and poked away as the net came off its moorings, then lo and behold, the puck crossed the line.

You be the judge:Thanks to Puckdaddy

At least we found another new way to trash Adam Foote:

Tradin’ Times

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired Jason Williams RW/C from the Atlanta Thrashers for (minor league) D Clay Wilson and a 6th Round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

First the basics: Jason Williams 5’8″ 185 lbs born 8/11/80 and is a RIGHT HANDED SHOT

His stats (since 06-07 season):
His Cap Hit is about 1.1 million and he will be a UFA after the season.

What I like most is that it fills multiple needs; a potential 2nd line center, a right handed shot, and a power play point man. His points have fallen this year because Atlanta has something the CBJ has not, competition to play the point on the Powerless Play.

It is still unknown if he’ll play Friday night against the Devils, I’d expected possibly but mostly as just a point man.

Looking up…

Things could be looking up for the CBJ. As reported by The Columbus Dispatch Rick Nash and Andrew “Weighty” Murray both practiced today as well as Raffi Torres. All 3 are expected to play on Friday when the New Jersey Devils come to town Friday. It will be a welcome addition to have the Captain back in the line-up alongside Huselius and Umberger.

-As expected the Vancouver Canucks have placed goaltender Curtis Sanford on waivers. This is relevant because the Jackets could have an interest if Pascal Leclaires ankle injury is deemed more long-term. Any number of teams could claim Sanford as his salary is cheap (650k) and he has proven himself a serviceable back-up. Most notably the Stars, Islanders, and my dark horse, the Thrashers, are ahead of the CBJ to claim him by noon tomorrow. This is all a result of the return of All-Star Roberto Luongo returning to the line-up… just in time for the Jackets to play the Canucks. Hooray?

-Winter Classic discussion is heating up. Lots of locales mentioned for the 2010 game. My money’s on Boston, especially with the way the Bruins have played so far this season. Puckdaddy
