While Steve Mason fell asleep during the 2nd period there was one moment where the Sens almost got into the game, but instead they hit the post.

The Senators are a shell of their former selves a la the 2007 Stanley Cup Finals. The team is literally one line of forwards and not much else.

The bad news is the power play is still terrible (0 for 6) but the penalty kill was perfect (5 for 5).

Even more good news, the Jackets can take sole possession of 5th place with a win tonight.

It was cold and crappy outside in what was the worst storm so far in the winter of 08-09.

But that didn’t stop the Captain from taking it to the Detroit Red Wings

Sure the Wings were a little shorthanded (no Datsyuk or Lidstrom) but from the moment that Rick Nash scored a short-handed breakaway to tie the game at one a piece, it seemed inevitable that this was his night.

Not only was this a statement to the Red Wings, but this was a statement to the team and the league, in my opinion. Rick is going to do everything he can to get the team to the playoffs this year.

Of note:
-Tampa Bay, Detroit, Dallas, Nashville, Florida, Los Angeles, and the Rangers all had scouts in the building.
-Dan Fristche was traded from the Rangers to the Wild
-I had no internet service for the last two days
-Another big game tomorrow against the East. It’s the 2nd night of a back to back for the Senators, and Mase is in goal, lets hope he continues his success against the Eastern Conference

I don’t really have an excuse for not posting the last 3 days, but I’ll blame the All-Star Break and say that I needed my own break.

-The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that the Detroit Red Wings are appealing the 1-game suspension of All-Stars Nick Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk…

The NHL has taken a strong stand on players who miss the All-Star game, stating that they must miss the game previous or prior to the ASG if they are to miss the ASG as well. -Puckdaddy

-Nikita Filatov has been placed on IR, retroactive to Jan. 18, whatever

-Big game against Detroit tomorrow night at Nationwide, every game against the Wings is big, but winning or getting a point in the first game out of the break would set a good tone for the remainder of the season.

The Jackets make their first appearance in the Saddledome after defeating the Flames in game 1 of the season series 3-1.

Juice is out (wrist), Captain Picard is in… the team will be lacking top end talent but the middle seems to be okay. The Torres-Williams-Boll line has been surprisingly effective and will look to be successful again tonight. The top line could be interesting Nash-Malhotra-??Voracek?? or ??Umberger??

Calgary is coming off of back-to-back losses, and has yet to lose 3 in a row at any point this season. The Jackets have lost one, and have only lost on game at a time 4 times this year. As in, when they lose there are at least 2 losses except for 4 instances this season.

This could be ugly… the All-Star Break could not come at a better time for the banged up CBJ.
